In computing, “whoami” is a command found on most Unix-like operating systems, Intel iRMX 86, every Microsoft Windows operating system since Windows Server 2003, and on ReactOS. It is a concatenation of the words “Who am I?” and prints the effective username of the current user when invoked.
I am Andrei – a 24 years old tech enthusiast currently based in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. In the past few years, I’ve had the opportunity to work for a small services company in Romania, SmartSpot; followed by some time spent at an amazing Finnish cybersecurity company, Nixu; a short adventure at one of Germany’s top cloud services providers, Skaylink; that I left to follow a path that I felt provided help and security to a big amount of people, at E.ON, the go-to energy company in over 30 European countries, with over 33 million customers. I can say I had a quite successful journey, and intend to help everyone build their own.
Of course, you can find out more about my career path and qualifications at my LinkedIn page “here“, or at the bottom of the website.
I’ve decided to write this blog with several reasons in mind. First of all, there’s a huge gap between vacant and filled positions in cybersecurity, and I intend to help closing this gap. Secondly, I feel there’s a huge misconception about cybersecurity, and tech jobs in general, and I want to clear that out. It’s not difficult to be successful in tech. At least, it’s not more difficult that in any other domain.
Back in 2020 when the pandemic started, I was a freshly graduated student from Cluj-Napoca’s Technical University, with a bachelor’s in Automation & Computer Science, 4 years full of parties and networking, but no real-world knowledge or experience. I still dreamt of being a part of the cybersecurity world, and 3 years later, I managed to fill a Senior Specialist position focused on Vulnerability Management for the Romanian subsidiary of E.ON. I feel that I’ve had my fair share of luck, but luck always come to those who work for it, and I intend to help anyone interested in tech to get their dream job.
